2024 Border Days Queen Cressis Holes

Cressis is 16 years old and the daughter of Ray and Lisa Holes. She has two brothers, Vade and Ray Jr., and comes from a family with a rich history. Her great-grandfather was the renowned saddlemaker Ray Holes, and her grandfather Jerry Holes was a former Grangeville Border Days Grand Marshall.

Cressis attended Sts. Peter & Paul School and has been an honor roll student at Grangeville High School. She's excited to be a senior this fall, graduating with the class of 2025. A two-time state qualifier in the Business Professionals of America program, Cressis also loves school dances and cheering on her fellow Bulldogs at sporting events. Though she's considering a future in the equine world, her varied interests leave her undecided about what to study in college. She enjoys reading, baking, horse and stock dog training, and helping out on the family ranch.

Cressis is passionate about rodeo and competes in barrel racing, goat tying, breakaway roping, and pole bending. She has been part of the Riggins Drill Team and Grangeville’s Triple Bar Drill Team. Some of her rodeo achievements include winning her first barrel racing champion buckle at the Weippe Rodeo in 2021 and the buckle at the 2022 Grangeville Border Days Rodeo. Over the last three years, she has won titles, buckles, and a saddle from various rodeos.

Cressis has a special bond with animals, especially her horses ‘Monkey,’ ‘Montana,’ ‘Dame,’ ‘Chica,’ and ‘Voodoo,’ and her working stock dog ‘Jake.’ She often rides her 6-year-old mare ‘Voodoo,’ whom she has trained herself from birth.

As the daughter of a rancher, Cressis enjoys all aspects of ranch life, from gathering in the mountains to doctoring calves and branding. She's always up for anything—except fencing! Cressis takes her title seriously and is honored to represent Grangeville Border Days. She aims to promote her community and Idaho’s oldest rodeo with pride, and hopes to inspire others to take an interest in rodeo.

Some of her favorite memories from her 2023-24 reign include:

Coronation and Benefit Event: "The support from family and friends was heartwarming. The generosity of the communities and sponsors really kicked off our reign right!"

Lighted Christmas Parades: "Despite the cold, spending hours waiting in line and riding in the parades gave Noelle and me quality time together."

Asotin Fair & Rodeo in April: "Riding in the parade and rodeo was the first big event of the year. It got Noelle and me psyched and ready for Riggins!"

Riggins Rodeo in May: "The parade was fun, and it was a great rodeo with lots of action. I felt so proud to represent Grangeville Border Days."

Other highlights include the Grangeville Trunk-or-Treat, the Walla Walla Royalty Clinic, and seeing the newly wrapped Grangeville Border Days horse trailer for the first time. Cressis and Noelle feel incredibly lucky to be featured on the trailer, thanks to their amazing sponsors.

Border Days Princess Noelle Chmelik

Meet Princess Noelle Chmelik! Noelle is 17 years old and currently attends St. John Bosco Academy. She'll be a senior next year, and she's really excited about it. Noelle is the daughter of Jim and Colleen Chmelik and the granddaughter of Ron and Glenda Frei. She's the youngest in her family, with three brothers and four sisters.

Noelle is quite the athlete, enjoying basketball and volleyball. She’s also very involved in her school community, participating in fundraisers and volunteer projects like faith retreats.

One of Noelle's favorite memories from this year was organizing an auction and dinner with Queen Cressis to help raise funds. She also loves waving at the young girls during parades and seeing their big smiles. Noelle is deeply grateful for all the support she and Cressis have received.

Looking ahead, Noelle plans to attend Ave Maria University after high school, where she hopes to study philosophy and the liberal arts.
